Smoke damage restoration basics

Residue is not one colour
Protein smoke, synthetic smoke and furnace puff-backs behave differently. Dry soot wipes; oily film smears. The wrong dry sponge sequence can grind carbon into pale nylon. Content cleaning (carpets, upholstery, rugs) is only part of a building job.
Odour
Odour lives in pads, drapes and HVAC. Ozone and fogs are tools some restorers use; they are not a casual DIY experiment around people and pets. We will not prescribe a machine. We will say: do not paint over a smell and hope.
Safety first
